E is for Epilepsy

E is for epilepsy – a brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells, or neurons, in the brain sometimes signal abnormally. Basically, the brain short circuits itself. More than 2 million people in the United States have experienced an unprovoked seizure or have been diagnosed with epilepsy.
I choose this because I have had epilepsy since the fifth grade and while it is a disorder, I see this as my biggest strength. I use my epilepsy to teach people what to do in the event that they come upon someone having a seizure. I have never seen my epilepsy as a weakness; I see it as my greatest strength because while I will always have epilepsy; mine is controlled with medication. I love the fact there are many well known athletes and actors who are coming forward with their own story of epilepsy. Epilepsy has no barriers. My hope is that through education and fundraising, and unlimited research a cure for epilepsy will be found.
